Abstract
A very distinctive perdicine bird was discovered in July 1991 during f ieldwork in montane evergreen forests in parts of the Udzungwa Mountai ns in Tanzania which were so far ornithologically unexplored. The bird is described here as a new genus and species with affinities to the h ill-partridges Arborophila of the Indo-Malayan region.
