BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME - LITERATURE-REVIEW AND MODEL FOR RESEARCH ANDMANAGEMENT

The literature on burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is reviewed with partic ular reference to its prevalence, local and systemic etiologic factors , psychogenic background and treatment. Research requirements are disc ussed, which focus on different clinical and psychological parameters and the necessity to evaluate BMS. Finally, a treatment protocol inclu ding oral, medical and psychological investigations is presented.
