Ed. Evans et al., ADOLESCENTS COGNITIONS AND ATTRIBUTIONS FOR ACADEMIC CHEATING - A CROSS-NATIONAL-STUDY, The Journal of psychology, 127(6), 1993, pp. 585-602
We examined perceptions about academic cheating in comparable 11th-gra
de students from Costa Rica, Germany, and the United States to assess
the similarities and differences associated with the different societi
es, with achievement status, and with gender. German students generall
y differed substantially from both Costa Rican and U.S. students in pe
rceptions of the problem, critical attributes of cheating, causes of c
heating, and beliefs about effective ways to control cheating in the s
chool. We did find some important similarities across all three sample
s, however. Achievement and gender effects were less substantial but w
ere uniform across the three groups.
