CHIRONOMUS-PILICORNIS FABRICIUS, 1787 AND C-HETEROPILICORNIS SP-N (DIPTERA, CHIRONOMIDAE) IN FENNOSCANDIAN RESERVOIRS - KARYOSYSTEMATIC ANDMORPHOLOGICAL RESULTS

In Fennoscandia, two Chironomus species show the characteristic featur es of C. pilicornis Fabricius, but are different in karyotypes, larval types, pupal characters and size. I associated the smaller species wi th C. pilicornis and described the larger species as C. heteropilicorn is sp.n. Both species occur sympatrically in Kyrkosjarvi/Western Finla nd and seem to prefer very shallow areas. Exact data on ecology and di stribution are scarce because the many older notes on ''C. pilicornis' ' cannot be attributed unambigously to either species.
