The problem of the dynamic response of a horizontally stayed bridge un
der wind loading is considered. A linearized dynamic analysis is perfo
rmed on the proposed system to strengthen the transverse stiffness of
the bridge, which is idealized as a two-span beam supported on two int
ermediate flexural springs which represent the cables used. Free and f
orced motion are thoroughly discussed and a variety of results are obt
ained, casting significant light on the effect of the main geometrical
properties and wind duration on the eigenfrequencies as well as on th
e dynamic deflection and bending moment of the bridge, as compared to
the classical two-span continuous beam model.
