Though appropriate exercise has many health benefits for women, there is a point of diminishing returns. Young female athletes driven to exc el in their chosen sports are at risk of developing a potentially fata l triad of disorders. By recognizing the connection between disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis, physicians can help athletic yo ung women stay active while avoiding significant morbidity.
