Abstract
The x-ray source 4U 1700-37 was observed with the WATCH instrument on the Granat observatory between September 1991 and October 1992. We pre sent the results of those observations here. We find that the orbital period of the binary is decreasing at a rate P/P= -(4.13 +/- 0.19) X 1 0(-6) yr-1. We present light curves which illustrate that the x-ray fl ux from the source is highly variable on various time scales. In the e nergy range 8-60 keV, the light curves of 4U 1700-37 are essentially s ymmetric about phase 0.5.
