Abstract
Electrochemical and Raman studies of poly-ortho-aminophenol (poly-oAP) are reported. In situ Raman spectra indicate the ladder-like structur e of poly-oAP with phenoxazine rings. An attempt to electropolymerize 3-aminophenoxazone (3APZ) has been performed. Differences between volt ammograms obtained during electrooxidation of oAP and 3APZ led to the conclusion that 3APZ does not polymerize. It is formed during the elec trooxidation of ortho-aminophenol (oAP). 3APZ radicals react further w ith oAP cation radicals forming poly-oAP with a phenoxazine structure. Spectroscopic results indicate a difference in the molecular structur e of products of 3APZ dimerization or oligometization and that of poly -oAP.
