Spectroscopic investigations of natural CaWO4 scheelite minerals doped
with Gd3+, Eu2+, Eu3+, Sm3+, Yb3+, Nd3+ and Pr3+ rare earth ions and
Mn2+ ion are reported. IR transmission, Raman scattering, electron abs
orption, reflectance and fluorescence, and ESR spectra are measured. T
he assignment of the bands in the energetic range studied to the respe
ctive normal modes and electronic transitions is proposed. The spectro
scopic properties of the RE 3, ions arc discussed and related to the s
ynthetically grown crystals.
