K. Topfer et Jr. Jarvis, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COUPLING KINETICS AND THE NOISE PROPERTIES OF COLOR NEGATIVE FILMS .1. BASIC COLOR NEGATIVE FILM RESPONSE CHARACTERISTICS, Journal of Photographic Science, 41(5), 1993, pp. 161-166
A new approach to modelling colour film granularity, which combines th
e kinetic theory of dye cloud formation with existing granularity theo
ries through the dye yield curve, is introduced. Good agreement betwee
n measured and calculated RMS-granularities was found for a set of sin
gle layer coatings containing a monodisperse emulsion and various coup
lers at four concentrations each. Investigations of the overall perfor
mance of the layers in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio showed that
the maximum value of this quantity did not depend on coupler concentra
tion, reactivity and equivalency.
