Abstract
The reduction of 2,3,5-substituted 2-sulfolenes with sodium in EtOH le ads to 4,5-dihydrothiophenes; the reduction of 2,3-substituted 2-sulfo lenes leads to a mixture of 4,5-dihydrothiophenes and sulfolanes.
