In context with the current discussions about the legal regulation of
a German therapeutic law, in which - according to the authors' opinion
- the analytic group psychotherapy as well as other methods of group
psychotherapy have not been paid their due attention, the project came
into existence to try and draw up a scientific statement, comprehendi
ng all schools and being interdisciplinary to the history, the sociolo
gical fundamental principles and the effective mechanisms of group psy
chotherapy. Anthropological, humanethologic and references of infant r
esearch have been used to support the theories. An acknowledgement of
the experts' report on questions regarding the German therapeutic law
is followed by extracts of NORBERT ELIAS' figuration and civilization
theories relevant to the analytic group psychotherapy, being confirmed
by latest results on human ethology. After describing the genesis of
illness from an analytic group psychotherapeutic point of view, differ
ences and common grounds of the ''Gottinger Modell'' and the model of
''group analysis'' (FOULKES) are being examined. Finally, the investig
ation is concluded by stating the effective mechanisms of the group an
alytic psychotherapy, known from literature and own clinical experienc
e. It is our intention to initiate the return of analytic group psycho
therapy in practice as well as in the legal regulation to its due stat
us.
