The setting of psychoanalysis and group analysis was compared under th
ree different aspects - role of interaction, tranceference and goals o
f therapy. The author states that the structure of classical psychoana
lytical dialogue contains obviously more male power than the setting o
f grouptherapy. Still, even there therapy power and its possible abuse
exist. Provided that the loss of power is not threatening for the gro
upleaders and they don't have to prevent it, the group itself reflects
more social reality and will be able to develop more autonomy than th
e single patient in the classical setting.
