Abstract
We have studied the early stages of Yb thin film oxidation process by means of Auger electron spectroscopy and Principal Component Analysis method. We have found that the kinetics of the oxidation process invol ves the presence of two different oxides. The formation of the oxides is sequential. We have identified the last appearing one as the stoich iometric oxide Yb2O3.
