Fluorescence demodulation spectroscopy (FDS) has been applied to deter
mine lifetimes and self-quenching cross sections of two absorption lin
es in the X-B spectrum of 127-iodine. The lines are the R(93), 2-16 (v
(n)-v(1)) transition and the P(95), 1-14 (v(n)-v(1)) transition. Both
states exhibit pure lifetimes of about 280 ns and cross sections for s
elf-quenching of about 46 Angstrom(2). Values of both the lifetimes an
d the cross sections are considerably smaller than previously reported
.
