Abstract
Desorption kinetics of CO from Rh(111) surface has been studied using TPD and isotope switch techniques. Linear increase of absolute desorpt ion rate with ambient CO gas pressure was observed. The exchange proce ss of gas molecules with adsorbed molecules dominates the desorption k inetics. A kinetic model for direct exchange reaction to explain the d esorption enhancement by the ambient gas is in good agreement with exp eriment results. The effect of the exchange reaction on adsorption kin etics is discussed.
