SEASONAL-CHANGES IN NONSTRUCTURAL CARBOHY DRATE CONTENT IN PRUNE TREES - RELATIONSHIP WITH VIGOR

Storage of non-structural carbohydrates was investigated in the wood o f prune trees (Prunus domestica L.). The vegetative vigour of the vari ety was modified by grafting on different rootstocks, and by using spe cial training systems (pruning and branche bending). Non-structural ca rbohydrate contents were monitored monthly in the trunk, and at leaf f all in one-year-old shoots. No relationships was observed between vege tative vigour and either carbohydrate content in the perennial parts, or carbohydrate content in the one-year-old shoots. Carbon partitionin g between carbohydrate storage and vegetative growth seems to be highl y regulated.
