The unpredictable nature of international affairs continues to require
the sudden call of U.S. military forces to active duty at irregular,
but recurring intervals. Thus, banks have been and will continue to be
faced with the claims of military service members, under the Soldiers
' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act (SSCRA), for relief from loan obligati
ons. The author discusses the scope and core provisions of the SSCRA,
the types of active-duty military service, the various forms of relief
available under the Act, and the limitations that may apply in extend
ing SSCRA benefits.
