The observed asymmetry of the major remanence loop of a particulate re
cording sample can be described by the complete-moving-hysteresis (CMH
) model using a symmetrical Preisach distribution. The amount of asymm
etry depends on the moving parameter, the squareness, and the reversib
le magnetization. It is shown that, for certain types of materials, th
e major hysteresis loop and the major remanence loop provide sufficien
t information to identify the moving parameter.
