The magnetic structure of tracks in a thin film longitudinal recording
medium has been studied using Lorentz microscopy. A simple model to s
imulate the stray field from tracks in such a medium has been develope
d and measurements obtained on computed images are compared directly t
o those from the experimental data. The level of agreement between exp
eriment and the simple theory is good and may provide the possibility
of reconstruction of the magnetization distribution from Lorentz image
s in the tracks.
