Abstract
The design aspects of a new optoelectronic probe that produces a real- time, DC coupled readout of the out-of-plane component of a flying hea d position relative to the disk are presented. The prototype implement ation achieves nanometer resolution in a 50 kHz bandwidth. A separate paper reports simulations and experiments that illustrate some of the application possibilities of this type of probe.
