Abstract
The effect of relative humidity on the friction and wear of thin film media with different lubricants has been studied. The presence of phys ically adsorbed water vapor at elevated humidity increased the take-of f velocity, leading to more head/disk interactions. In addition, chemi cal interactions between water vapor and lubricant with diol (-OH) end groups were seen at humidities above 65%.
