Abstract
A comparison between the performance of Extended class IV Partial Resp onse Maximum Likelihood detection (EPRML) and peak detection (PD) in h igh density digital magnetic recording is presented. The recording was done on a,thin him disk using separate heads for writing and reading. The linear recording densities ranged from 117 to 177 kbpi. The resul ts show that EPRML outperforms PD by at least 20%.
