Lj. Filippich et Ra. Perry, DRUG TRIALS AGAINST MEGABACTERIA IN BUDGERIGARS (MELOPSITTACUS-UNDULATUS), Australian veterinary practitioner, 23(4), 1993, pp. 184-189
The efficacy of a number of drugs against megabacteria was evaluated i
n megabacteria-positive budgerigars. The drugs were administered eithe
r in the drinking water for four or six weeks, or were given twice dai
ly for 10 days by crop gavage or intramuscular injection. None of the
in-water treatments was able to lower or eliminate consistently megaba
cteria from the faeces in the birds tested. Of the drugs given by crop
gavage, amphotericin B proved effective.
