Abstract
This study shows that transesterification reactions occur spontaneousl y when silicon (Si(OR)4) and titanium alkoxides (Ti(OR')4) are mixed, leading to the formation of mixed species, Si(OR)4-x(OR')x and Ti(OR') 4-y(OR)y. The reaction between silicon ethoxide and titanium isopropox ide was characterized using multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance (H -1, C-13, O-17, Si-29, Ti-47, Ti-49) and Ti K edge X-ray absorption (X ANES and EXAFS) spectroscopies. Possible structures of the reaction pr oducts are suggested.
