Unsteady problems of the motion and evolution of density inhomogeneiti
es in a developed fluidized bed of ferromagnetic solid particles are c
onsidered. The bed is subject to the action of a specified external ma
gnetic field. The inhomogeneities are located in regions where the par
ticle concentration differs from its mean value throughout the bed. Th
e model of the inhomogeneity, proposed previously in [1-3], as a spher
ical cluster of particles whose boundary is the surface of discontinui
ty of the distribution of the solid-phase concentration is developed.
Both the case of a varying density of the surface of discontinuity, im
permeable to solid-phase particles (a constant-mass cluster), and the
case of a discontinuity with inflow or outflow of dispersed particles
are studied. The effect of the external magnetic field and magnetic pr
operties of the particles on the velocity of motion of inhomogeneities
through the bed, their steady-state sizes and lifetimes is evaluated.
