Novel mixed-ligand tetra-coordinated chelates of mercury(II) of the co
mposition [Hg(Cl)(L-L)(L)], where (L-L)H = acetoacetanilide or o under
bar-hydroxyacetophenone and L = 3-methyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one, 3-methyl-
1-phenyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one, 2,3-dimethyl-4-methyl-aminomethanesulphon
ate sodium monohydrate-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one, 2,3-dimethyl-1-phe
nyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one or 3-dimethyl-1-(4'-methylphenyl)-3-pyrazoline-
5-one, have been synthesized and characterized by analytical data, mol
ar conductances, magnetic measurements, nuclear magnetic resonance and
infrared spectral studies. The overall I. R. studies suggest that ace
toacetanilide-o underbar-hydroxyacetophenone behave as a monobasic bid
entate oxygen donor and the 2/3-pyrazoline-5-one derivatives as monode
ntate 0-donors. A suitable tetrahedral structure has been proposed for
the chelates.
