Novel hexa-coordinated, mixed-ligand cyanonitrosyl complexes of molybd
enum(0) of the composition [Mo(NO)2(CN)2(L)2].2H2O (where L = aniline
derivatives. viz., o underbar-, m underbar-, p underbar-anisidine/phen
etidine, N-methylaniline or N,N-dimethylaniline) have been prepared in
the solid state by the interaction of (Mo(NO)2(CN)4]2- with the appro
priate aniline derivative L. The resulting compounds have been charact
erized by elemental analyses, molar conductances, magnetic measurement
s and infra-red spectral studies. An octahedral structure is suggested
for the complexes. Molybdenum(0) has a low-spin {Mo(NO)2}6 electron c
onfiguration1 in these complexes.
