The recoil momentum acting on dielectric and metal targets in the rang
e of pulsed laser radiation intensities 0.1-10 MW/cm2 has been experim
entally studied as a function of ambient pressure and incidence angle.
An empirical equation is obtained to calculate the recoil momentum ac
ting on irradiated targets. lt has been examined how the shielding pro
vided by the erosion torch and the counter-pressure affect the recoil
momentum at different values of ambient pressure.
