A theoretical investigation is made of the mechanism of generation of
a direct current flowing across a crystal illuminated by a static inte
rference pattern in an external ac electric field with asymmetric temp
oral profile. The analysis is restricted to the external field oscilla
tion periods that are small in comparison with the illumination respon
se time of the crystal.
