Cyclocondensation of spiro derivatives of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carb
olines (1) and (5) with aldehydes was found to be a regioselective pro
cess. The structure of individual new ring systems, i.e. N-3,7 (2-4),
N-2,7 (6) and N-2,14 (7-9) cyclocondensation products, was determined
using H-1 nmr techniques.
