Abstract
The prevalence of echinococcosis in slaughtered animals has been monit ored in the Slovak Republic between 1971 and 1990. In pigs, the preval ence dropped almost constantly from 3.85% to 0. 1 3%, by as much as 15 % per year. The dynamics of prevalence in sheep differs substantially from that in pigs. Significant 12 year, 6 year and 3 year periodicitie s predominate over a nonsignificant and slight decrease of prevalence by only 1% per year. Therefore, the prevalence fluctuates in the perio d of observations between 0.49 and 3.72%. No significant correlations or cross-correlations have been found between the prevalences in the t wo groups of animals.
