We present a family of exact solutions to the Einstein field equations
which describe inhomogeneous generalizations of spatially flat FRW co
smologies. The self-interacting scalar field with an exponential poten
tial of the form V approximately e(kphi) serves as a source for the ex
pansion. We show that these inhomogeneous models never inflate and bri
efly discuss the implications of our results on the genericity of infl
ation and isotropization at late times.
