The formation of dibutylstannylene acetals from polyols and dibutyltin
oxide is accelerated under microwave heating. The method is applied t
o the regioselective benzoylation of a variety of polyols. Some prelim
inary results on a catalytic tin-mediated benzoylation of polyols are
also presented.
