The total mass attenuation coefficients are measured for photons in th
e energy range 17.8-59.537 keV for muscovite (mica) with a good Geomet
ry set up, HpGe detector and an ND-512 multichannel analyser. From the
total cross sections, photoelectric cross sections are deduced by sub
tracting coherent and incoherent contributions. Comparison of the expe
rimental data with theoretically deduced values is made. A discussion
in the light of chemical effects and validity of Bragg's sum rule are
also presented.
