Abstract
This paper presents an optical fiber based position monitoring system, incorporating a high birefringent optical fiber and white-light inter ferometry. The effects of temperature variation are largely eliminated using a scheme of detecting the ''relative position within the stroke .'' A fringe-order identification technique employing two or more broa d-band sources is described which can be used to enhance the resolutio n of the position detection.
