Abstract
The absorptive capacity of urinary reservoir mucosa was studied by mea suring the fractions of (22)sodium and (36)chloride absorbed after ins tillation into reservoirs constructed from an ileal or a colonic segme nt. The absorption of (22)sodium did not differ between the 2 reservoi r types but absorption of (36)chloride was greater in the colonic rese rvoirs. The levels of chloride in serum were significantly higher in p atients with a colonic than in those with an ileal reservoir. In the i leal reservoirs the absorptive capacity was greater for (22)sodium tha n for (36)chloride.
