Abstract
Prevention of hypoglycaemia may sometimes be difficult in the operativ e period of insulinoma when parenteral volume overload is contraindica ted due to severe cardiac failure. We investigated the effects of octr eotide on hypoglycaemia during operations in two patients with insulin oma, one of whom had severe congestive heart failure. We found no hypo glycaemic values by using octreotide 100 mu g administered subcutaneou sly one hour before surgery. Octreotide therapy can safely be used bef ore surgery to prevent hypoglycaemia in patients with insulinoma.
