Abstract
Solasodine is an alternative to diosgenin as a raw material for the sy nthesis of steroidal drugs. Due to increasing difficulties in securing ample supply of diosgenin on sustained basis, a search for high solas odine-yielding plant species has been initiated. The review presents a comprehensive account of the occurrence of solasodine in world nora, its production through tissue culture technique, and synthetic approac hes.
