Abstract
Radiating tensional cracks around chromite inclusions in olivine (Fo91 ) have been observed in the protomylonitic rim of a Variscan shear zon e in the Finero peridotite complex in the Ivrea zone of northern Italy . The first assumptions used to develop a thermomechanical model based on the investigation of (e.g.) Wendt et al. are discussed and a fir st application of a chromite-olivine geothermobarometer is shown for t he example of the Finero peridotite.
