Thermal and photo-induced generation of radicals during adsorption of
m-dinitrobenzene (m-DNB) on donor centers (D(S)) of gamma-Al2O3 from v
arious solvents has been studied. Energy characteristics of these proc
esses are shown to be significantly dependent on the ionization potent
ial (I(p)) of solvent molecules (D). A mechanism for these processes i
s suggested implying the formation of surface electron donor-acceptor
(EDA) complexes of the type [D-NB-D(S)] with the participation of solv
ent molecules.
