G. Chuchani et I. Martin, ELIMINATION KINETICS OF 2-METHYL-2-PENTANOL CATALYZED BY HCL IN THE GAS-PHASE, Reaction kinetics and catalysis letters, 51(1), 1993, pp. 233-237
The kinetics of the elimination of 2-methyl-2-pentanol in the gas phas
e were determined in a static system, seasoned with allyl bromide, and
catalyzed by hydrogen chloride gas. The working temperature and press
ure ranges were 385-445-degrees-C and 38-291 Torr, respectively. Steri
c acceleration appears to be a reasonable explanation for rate enhance
ment in the dehydration process. This reaction is believed to proceed
through a six-membered cyclic transition state type of mechanism.
