This retrospective study included 444 cases of rheumatoid arthritis se
en in Morocco. Clinical features were similar to those reported in Eur
ope, although extra-articular forms seemed less common. An epidemiolog
ical approach is proposed. Comparison with findings of the 1983 survey
conducted by the French Society for Rheumatology found similarities (
predominance of females) although in both males and females the Incide
nce of the disease peaked at a younger age in Moroccan patients, sugge
sting a possible role of environmental factors.
