Mv. Gandhi et al., FINITE EXTENSION AND TORSION OF A CYLINDRICAL SOLID-FLUID MIXTURE FEATURING A RIGID CORE, Acta mechanica, 103(1-4), 1994, pp. 177-190
In this work, the finite extension and torsion of a swollen elastic cy
linder bonded to an inner rigid cylindrical core are investigated in t
he context of the theory of interacting continua. The boundary value p
roblem is solved numerically in order to determine the variation of th
e stretch-ratios, the stresses and also the volume fraction of the sol
id. The results of these investigations not only demonstrate significa
nt gradients in the stretch ratios and severe stress concentrations bu
t also stress reversals under certain conditions. These stress reversa
ls which occur in the neighborhood of the interface of the inner and o
uter cylinders can have a significant impact on damage studies pertain
