E.m.f. values for the cell glass\HZ(+/-)(m(A)), HCl(m(B)), NaCl(m(C)),
AgCl\Ag, where HZ(+/-) stands for the DL-alpha-amino-n-butyric acid,
were measured at 298.15 K in the ionic strength range from 0.1 to 4 mo
l kg(-1). From these data Fitter's parameter values for DL-alpha-amino
-n-butyric hydrochloride were obtained together with the first acidity
constant value (beta((0))+theta(NaH2Z) = 0.1539; beta((1)) = 0.221; C
-phi = -0.0133 and pK(a1) = 2.295). Activity and osmotic coefficients
for aqueous solutions of pure DL-alpha-amino-n-butyric hydrochloride a
t several concentrations (up to 0.1 mol.kg(-1)) were calculated from t
hese parameter values.
