Magnetic field effects (MFE) of the photoconductivity of beta-carotene
single crystals were studied at room temperature. Two effects with di
fferent sign and angular dependence were observed and interpreted as d
ue to radical pair recombination and the interaction of triplet excito
ns with trapped charges. A model of the photophysical processes that t
ake place at the surface of the beta-carotene crystals describing our
observations is presented.
