Abstract
The transient biradical generated from the photochemical reaction of a xanthone-xanthene bifunctional chain molecule was observed by means o f ESR and the spin trapping techniques. The product yield (spin adduct of the biradical) increased with increasing magnetic fields (less tha n or equal to 5000 G). The yield in the magnetic fields around 3350 C was reduced by the simultaneous irradiation of microwave during photol ysis. All the results were discussed within the framework of the radic al pair model.
