Recent experiments have lent strong support to the van Hove model for
the high-T(c) mechanism in cuprate superconductors. The new evidence i
s from measurements of angle-resolved photo-emission, specific heat ju
mp at T(c), the uniaxial stress effect on T(c) and thermopower. The ne
wly discovered superconductivity above 130 K in the Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-0 syst
em is also discussed in terms of the van Hove model.
