Abstract
A fully-engineered 128 channel optical frequency-division-multiplexing distribution system was tested for over 80 days. 128 optical senders, a cold-start automatic multichannel frequency controller, a 144 x 144 waveguide-type star coupler and intraoffice interfaces were installed in an NTT standard HI-PAS cabinet. Error free operation at 622Mbit/s was successfully achieved with a bit error rate of less than 2.2 x 10( -16) for an 85 day period.
