Abstract
The reasons of high genetic instability of an extremely halophilic arc haebacterium, Halobacterium salinarium, are discussed. The role of IS elements and homologous recombination in frequent rearrangements of th e microbial genome as well as possible reasons of high genetic instabi lity of Halobacterium salinarium are evaluated.
